Why Pope Francis Is Seeking Reconciliation with European Fascists | The Open Tabernacle

(….) Former S.S. Captain Erich Priebke had said he wanted a Catholic burial. Like thousands of other war criminals, he had escaped Europe via one of the Vatican ratlines and lived quietly in Argentina for the next 50 years until he was exposed by an ABC News investigative team. Priebke was extradited to Rome and convicted in 1997 of participating in the 1944 Ardeatine Massacre of 335 Italian resistance fighters but remained unrepentant. He was put under house arrest due to his age where he died at age 100 on Oct. 11, 2013. When both Catholic Church and civil authorities refused to bury him, SSPX offered to hold the funeral Mass but was prevented from doing so when “protesters surrounded the car which was carrying the body to their church.” Priebke was buried in an Italian prison cemetery.  ……

The (US) Religious Right can no longer decide elections. The New York Times is correct: “For years [Democrats] were cowed by the religious right into changing the subject when abortion or birth control or same-sex marriage came up. But now, increasingly assured that public opinion supports their positions, Democrats have become more aggressive in challenging Republicans about their beliefs,” according to a Sept. 29 editorial, “The Tide of the Culture War Shifts.” Although “not necessarily true in the most conservative states,” and perhaps “not enough for Democrats to keep the Senate this year [b]ut over time, it may help spell an end to the politics of cultural division.”  ….

When negative reporting by the mainstream media on the new Pope Francis was still allowed, there were many articles when he was first elected in March 2013 accusing Fr. Jorge Mario Bergoglio of cooperating with the junta while head of the Argentine Jesuits. Vatican spokesman, Fr. Federico Lombardi, called these reports “defamations from anti-clerical leftists.” A good summation of these allegations can be found in an article by University of California, Berkeley, Professor Nancy Scheper-Hughes resulting from her research for a new book on what became known as the Dirty War.  ……

11 nuns sexually abused at least 95 kids from Montana reservation, lawsuit claims – rawstory.co

Nearly a dozen Catholic nuns sexually abused at least 95 students at boarding and day schools run by the Ursuline Sisters of the Western Province, according to a lawsuit scheduled for trial later this year. The suit — which was filed in 2011 in Lewis and Clark County, Montana – lists 95 plaintiffs but includes placeholders for up to 105 potential victims, reported the Global Sisters Report.

The trial is scheduled to begin Dec. 1, and the plaintiffs’ attorneys will attempt to prove 11 nuns who served from the 1940s to 1970s at St. Ignatius Mission School physically, sexually, and emotionally abused students from the Flathead Indian Reservation.

“It affected a whole generation of Native American kids,” said Vito de la Cruz, an attorney for the plaintiffs.

About 5,000 U.S. priests and deacons have been accused of sexual abuse in cases dating to the 1950s, but only an estimated 88 other female religious figures have been accused of abuse, according to the online database Bishopaccountability.org. The database shows about 400 alleged victims of female religious figures, not including the Montana case. Only two of the accused women have been convicted of criminal charges, although dozens of them have been named in civil suits.

The Diocese of Helena, which is named in the suit, previously settled a separate suit that alleged church officials covered up abuse by its priests. The diocese agreed to pay $15 million in compensation and at least $2.5 million for future claims, and it has since declared bankruptcy.  ….

Study: Americans want more religion in politics   By Sara Grossman, Special to CNN

(CNN) – On Sunday, pastor Jim Garlow of Skyline Church in California stood before his congregation of more than 2,000 and told them he would be making an unusual announcement.  The pastor proceeded to warn his audience against voting for a candidate in the upcoming midterm elections who supports gay marriage and abortion, even if that candidate, Carl DeMaio, is a Republican.

Study: Americans want more religion in politics – CNN Belief Blog - CNN.com BlogsGarlow, an outspoken evangelical who played a major role in organizing Christian groups in support of California’s anti-gay marriage Proposition 8, spoke plainly: He would not be supporting the Republican in this race.

“I know enough that you cannot have the advancing of the radical homosexual agenda and religious liberty at the same time, in the same nation,” he preached. “One will win, and one will lose.”

Instead, Garlow told his followers he would be endorsing DeMaio’s rival, Democratic incumbent Scott Peters, representative for California’s 52nd District, to send a scathing message to Republican leadership that candidates who back abortion and gay rights are unacceptable to the party’s Christian base.

Garlow is one of a growing number of Americans who say that religion should play a greater role in politics, according to the findings of a recent study by the Pew Research Forum’s Religion & Public Life Project. The study found that almost three-quarters of the American public — 72% — believes that religion’s influence is waning in public life, the highest level in Pew Research polling over the past 10 years. And many Americans say that trend is a bad thing, the study found.

“A growing share of the American public wants religion to play a role in U.S. politics,” the Pew study authors write.   ……
